Chlorine Repackaging and Bleach Plants

Along with our traditional services to chlorine and chlorate producer plants shown on the main web pages, Andritz Automation has been actively addressing the special needs of the chlorine repackaging and bleach production segment of the industry for several decades. Two such specialized services are discussed below. Each has its own links for more detailed information.

Electronic Container Tracking

The repackaging of chlorine into smaller containers for use in water treatment, swimming pools, and many other sanitation related applications requires the repackaging company to fill, transport, inventory, and account for thousands of cylinders and ton containers. Until recently, keeping track of all the containers has essentially been done manually or with bar codes attached to each vessel. Both types of systems have been proven to be a nuisance and have experienced frequent errors.

Recently, the advance in hand held computers and the development of rugged, nearly indestructible, transponders has solved much of the trouble. Andritz Automation is partnering with DataWeld, Inc. of Louisiana who has pioneered the AcuTrax container tracking system that is now in place in several chlorine repackaging plants across the USA.

Using this system gives many advantages, some of which include:

  • Detailed real time knowledge of where your "steel" is. The problem of lost containers of liquid chlorine is eliminated. This is a key concern of the Department of Homeland Security.
  • Ability to reliably track the containers through distributors to the final destination and back home again. Multiple types of reports are available and the system can be directly tied to your accounting system for instant updates.
  • Better customer service through greatly improved billing accuracy and elimination of contentious billing for "lost" containers.
  • Better utilization and turns on your fleet of containers. The need for periodic retesting is predictable for strategic planning of asset allocation.
  • Generates the potential for charging only for the time the container is at the customer location. This can be a marketing advantage for you and will encourage the customer to promptly return the containers.
  • Mobile invoicing is possible which may improve cash flow for your business.
  • If there is a quality problem with the product, one can easily find out how many containers of what type were made from the offending product, where it was distributed, and how much of it is left in the marketplace. As an example of these types of issues, just cast your memory back to the national turmoil surrounding the recent "Mad Cow" scare.
  • Using transponders instead of bar codes allows the containers to be bead blasted and repainted without having to remark the containers. The transponders are very rugged and not easily scratched or defaced.
